In military terms, I always thought it's a type of indoctrination of the raw meat recruit in being a soldier in command of the himself or the environment, and not the reverse. That you do "go" to your food like an animal, you bring your food to you. And it's done by sitting in erect posture, back upright, and going through the square motions with the fork. It's difficult, especially keeping you back upright and not leaning into your food, but it is good training in being a human and not animal!

I live in New Zealand and in the language of the Maori of New Zealand, a kete is a basket. Money left, not in the "kitty," but money left in the "kete." Google will tell you how to pronounce this Maori word but is sounds close to "kitty." This is why Americans and Brits can't come up with an explanation for this saying

Loved reading your article, especially the part that describes where on the body jewelry is worn and its significance. As you correctly note, the first evidence of Jewelry was discovered to be 75,000 years ago. And it is equally important to also note that the discovery was made in the Blombos caves of South Africa near the cape.
Thanks!

Another explanation of the origin of the toast was given to me from a high ranking naval officer during a naval wedding speach. He claimed that, centuries past, sailors on board a rocking ship (i assume officers) would place a piece of toast on the wine cup to stop it spilling and when they raised the glass they were also raising the toast which ended up in the wine.....and over time the tradition moved to land and the etymology took shape.

I hate seeing people walk with their hands behind their back because, their posture is awful and asking for an early upper back curvature! I always wanted to know why people do it and now I know, it is even more stupid!

Pumpkins with ghoulish faces and illuminated by candles are a sure sign of the Halloween season. The practice of decorating jack-o -lanterns originated in Ireland, where large turnips and potatoes served as early canvasses. In fact, the name, jack-o -lantern, comes from an Irish folktale about a man named Stingy Jack. Irish immigrants brought the tradition to America, home of the pumpkin, and it became an integral part of Halloween festivities.
